Top Employers At The Malaysian Career Fair In London

UK-based Malaysian professionals and students interact with CEOs and HR heads from key economic sectors

London, 31 March 2015 – The UKEC-GRADUAN Malaysian Career Fair 2015 showcased the growing number of attractive career opportunities in Malaysia, with 35 of Malaysia’s leading employers connecting with more than 4000 students and professionals in London. The annual fair took place from 28 to 31 March in the UK capital.

"These are exciting times for Malaysia and I strongly encourage the Malaysian youth to return and take part in Malaysia’s transformation. Come home, build a career and contribute towards your nation's vision 2020," said YB Senator Dato’ Sri Idris Jala, calling on Malaysian students to take on the high value jobs created by initiatives within the Economic Transformation Programme (ETP).

During the career fair, students were also given the chance to take part in an Apprenticeship Challenge where four undergraduates were selected for internships at PEMANDU, with a student from the University of Exeter chosen as Senator Dato’ Sri Idris’ Perdana Fellow.

"It’s better to return to a great company in Malaysia and work for the right people than settling for just any job in the UK for the sake of staying and working abroad," said Dato' Izzaddin Idris, Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), UEM Group Berhad when speaking to students during the career fair’s corporate luncheon.

Leading employers recruiting at the Malaysian Career Fair included banks Maybank & CIMB; telcos Axiata & Maxis; accounting firms PwC & KPMG; electronics MNCs Intel, Osram & Dyson; plantation giants Felda Global Ventures & Sime Darby; property developers Sunway & Gamuda; oil & gas players Shell & Exxonmobil; and Government funds, Khazanah Nasional Berhad & the Employee Provident Fund (EPF).

Accenture Malaysia’s Country Managing Director Janet Yap advised students, "Find your passion, be willing to go against the tide and you should have every chance to find success forging a career in Malaysia." Other corporate leaders who engaged with Malaysian students at the fair included Dato’ Chang Khim Wah, President & CEO, Ecoworld; Philip Seah, CEO, Prudential Malaysia; Lee Lung Nien, CEO, Citibank Malaysia; Wan Kamaruzaman, CEO, Retirement Fund Inc. (KWAP); Dato’ Rauf Rashid, Country Managing Director, EY; Tan Theng Hooi, Country Managing Partner, Deloitte; Azlin Arshad, CEO, ECM Libra and Leonard Ariff Abd Shatar, CEO, CCM Berhad.

Talent Corporation Malaysia Berhad’s (TalentCorp) CEO Johan Mahmood Merican added, "The career fair organised by GRADUAN and UKEC provided an ideal platform for leading employers and Malaysian talent in the UK. Companies were able to access a pool of top talent, while attendees get the chance to learn about the exciting and rewarding careers available back home."
