17 January 2026

Minister of Human Resources, Yang Berhormat Dato’ Sri Ramanan Ramakrishnan with the participants of Jelajah AI MyMahir @ Sungai Buloh

SUNGAI BULOH, 17 JANUARY 2026The Ministry of Human Resources (KESUMA) is intensifying efforts to prepare Malaysians for an AI-driven economy through the nationwide expansion of Jelajah AI MyMahir, a community-based AI upskilling initiative led by its strategic think tank agency, Talent Corporation Malaysia Berhad (TalentCorp).

Launching the programme, Minister of Human Resources, YB Dato’ Sri Ramanan Ramakrishnan, said Malaysia’s approach to artificial intelligence must be inclusive, people-centred and grounded in real workplace needs.

“AI is already reshaping how Malaysians work across sectors. Our responsibility as a government is to ensure the rakyat are not left behind, but are equipped with practical skills that help them remain productive, employable and competitive,” he said.

“Through TalentCorp, this is being delivered on the ground. Jelajah AI MyMahir turns national talent priorities into practical AI learning that reaches Malaysians where they live and work.”

Under the nationwide rollout, Jelajah AI MyMahir will be implemented across 60 constituencies, delivering hands-on, applied AI learning to students, workers, women, entrepreneurs and small business owners.

The programme focuses on immediately usable AI applications that support productivity, income generation and employability as AI continues to reshape jobs and skills requirements.

The exchange of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between TalentCorp and EY Malaysia, witnessed by Minister of Human Resources, Yang Berhormat Dato’ Sri Ramanan Ramakrishnan

The collaboration with Ernst & Young Consulting Sdn. Bhd. (EY Malaysia) is undertaken under EY’s global corporate responsibility programme, EY Ripples. As part of the initiative, TalentCorp formalised a strategic collaboration with EY Malaysia through the exchange of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), reinforcing public–private collaboration to advance people-centric AI implementation in support of the MyMahir agenda.

Valued at RM110 million, the collaboration is expected to benefit approximately 22,000 Malaysians nationwide, comprising around 12,000 participants through Jelajah AI MyMahir and a further 10,000 participants through other TalentCorp initiatives involving school and university students, women and military veterans.

The urgency of accelerating AI upskilling is reinforced by TalentCorp’s Impact Study on AI, Digital and the Green Economy, which estimates that around 685,000 Malaysian workers could be significantly impacted within the next three to five years if reskilling and upskilling efforts are not intensified.

This is further supported by research from the Institute of Strategic & International Studies (ISIS) Malaysia, which indicates that 45% of the workforce, or approximately 6.7 million workers, have at least 40% of their job tasks potentially substitutable by existing generative AI technologies.

To date, four pilot Jelajah AI MyMahir sessions have been held in Sabah and Selangor, signalling strong nationwide demand for practical, application-based AI learning.

Secretary General of Human Resources, Datuk Azman bin Mohd Yusof delivering his welcoming remarks

Secretary-General of KESUMA, Datuk Azman Bin Mohd Yusof, said the initiative demonstrates TalentCorp’s role in translating national talent and AI priorities into delivery on the ground.

“Through Jelajah AI MyMahir, TalentCorp is operationalising national policy by bringing applied AI training directly to communities, strengthening workforce adaptability and enhancing long-term employability and productivity,” he said.

Aligned with the AI Technology Action Plan 2026 - 2030, Jelajah AI MyMahir adopts a community-based, demand-driven approach, enabling participants to integrate AI tools into creative work, business operations and daily productivity.

Chairman of TalentCorp, YB Wong Shu Qi, said the initiative reflects a shift from awareness-building to capability-building in Malaysia’s talent development strategy.

“This approach strengthens the national talent pipeline and supports long-term economic resilience.”

These efforts also support the objectives of the MADANI Economy, which aims to build a resilient, high-productivity and talent-driven economy by ensuring that Malaysia’s workforce is able to adapt sustainably to technological change.

The Jelajah AI MyMahir programme will continue to be rolled out progressively nationwide to expand access to practical AI skills and learning opportunities, in support of building an inclusive, future-ready Malaysian workforce.
