Career Comeback Tax Exemption
Women play a big part in the Government’s strategy to prepare for the Future of Work. That is why we are invested in attracting, nurturing and retaining our female talent in the workforce.
To encourage our women to return to work, the Government will give an individual income tax exemption of up to 12 months to eligible women returnees.
 
In order to be eligible for the Career Comeback Tax Exemption, you will need to fulfill the following criteria, and submit your information to us by 31 December 2023.
ARE YOU ELIGIBLE?
The Career Comeback Tax Exemption is available* to women who:

  • Are Malaysian citizens and residents of Malaysia.
  • Have minimum three (3) years full-time work experience prior to taking a career break.
  • Was not on no-pay leave, half-pay leave nor prolonged paid leave during the career break.
  • Have ceased employment and have not derived any employment income for a continuous period of at least 24 months prior to, or as at 27 October 2017.
  • Have not exceeded the age of 58 years on the date the application to TalentCorp.
  • Have signed a full-time employment contract in Malaysia with a qualifying employer for a period of at least 24 months. Qualifying employer means: not a company where the applicant is directly or indirectly involved in; not a company belonging to the applicant's family and relatives; and not a sole proprietorship.
  • Have worked for at least 12 consecutive months from the employment contract with the same qualified employer, and the period of employment is between 27 October 2017 until 31 December 2024.
  • Receive a minimum gross salary of five thousand ringgit (RM 5,000) per month from the qualified employer.

If you fulfil the criteria listed above and wish to submit your application, you can take the next step with the following guidelines:

1. Download and fill out the Application Form and Statutory Declaration Form

2. Submit the following documents to TalentCorp via e-mail: womentax@talentcorp.com.my

(a) Application Form
(b) Statutory Declaration Form
(c) One (1) copy of identity card
(d) Signed Employment Contract
(e) EPF statement OR SOSCO statement (for years 2015, 2016 and 2017)
(f) Updated Curriculum Vitae (CV) / Resume


what's next after submitting your application?

  1. If your application is successful, you will receive a Letter of Approval issued by the Ministry of Finance. This process takes between 60 working days upon TalentCorp receiving a complete application, and the Letter of Approval will be sent to you via TalentCorp.
  2. For Tax Filing: as stated in the Letter of Approval, you must decide on the year of exemption and proceed with your tax filing as per usual.

What is the Career Comeback Programme?
TalentCorp’s Career Comeback Programme started in 2015, where we implement programmes and interventions to encourage our women to come back to work, and for employers to hire career comeback women.
What is the Career Comeback Tax Exemption about?
The Career Comeback Tax Exemption is made available for women who return to the workforce after being on a career break for at least 2 years on 27 October 2017. The treatment of income tax exemption is eligible to be claimed in the year of assessment 2018 to a year of assessment 2023.
