Dato’ Seri Mohd Najib was appointed as Malaysia’s 6th Prime Minister on 3 April 2009. He launched a Government Transformation Programme to improve the quality of public services, increase efficiency, and make government more transparent. To drive the nation forward, Dato’ Seri Najib introduced a New Economic Model with reforms to create a business environment conducive to economic growth, development and investment. The goal is to make Malaysia a high-income nation and a developed country by 2020.
Dato’ Sri Abdul Wahid Omar, was appointed as a Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department on 5 June 2013, as Minister in charge of the Economic Planning Unit (EPU). Prior to taking up his post in the Prime Minister’s Department, Dato’ Sri Abdul Wahid was the President and CEO of Maybank, Malaysia’s largest banking group and the fourth largest in South East Asia, since May 2008. Dato’ Sri Abdul Wahid is also the Chairman of The Association of Banks in Malaysia. He is also a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (UK) and a Member of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants. He is a Senator in the Dewan Negara, upper house of parliament.
Dato’ Sri Idris Jala is the current Minister without Portfolio in the Prime Minister’s Department and chief executive officer of the Performance Management and Delivery Unit (Pemandu). He is a Senator in the Dewan Negara, upper house of parliament.
Dato’ Sri Dr. Ali bin Hamsa was appointed as the Chief Secretary to the Government of Malaysia by the Yang DiPertuan Agong effective 24th June 2012.
Born in Kluang, Johor on Aug 29, 1955, Ali obtained Bachelor of Economics (Honours) from University of Malaya, and a Masters in Economics and a PhD in Environmental Science and Economics from Oklahoma State University, the United States.
He started his career in the Administrative and Diplomatic Service as Trade and Industry Ministry assistant secretary on Jan 5, 1981. He served the Economic Planning Unit of the Prime Minister’s Department from Dec 16, 1997 to April 21, 2009. At the department, he held the positions of director of disbursement division and deputy director-general of the National Transformation and Advancement Programme before being appointed director-general of UKAS in the Prime Minister’s Department on April 22, 2009.
Chief Executive Officer
Johan Mahmood Merican was appointed the Chief Executive Officer of Talent Corporation Malaysia Berhad (TalentCorp) since its establishment on 1 January 2011. With Malaysia’s wealth of talent and abundance of opportunities, Johan is confident that through the public and private sectors working closely together, we can address the talent needs of our economic transformation.
Johan was previously the Principal Private Secretary to the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department of Malaysia and has 18 years of experience in policy development, corporate finance and accountancy in both the public and private sectors in Malaysia and the United Kingdom. Trained as a chartered accountant, he holds a first class honours degree in Economics from the University of Cambridge and is an Associate of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW).
